WAXHAW, NC – Growing up in New York, Shannon Mauro baked family recipes alongside her mother. Her father owned various restaurants in Long Island, NY which gave her an appreciation and love for being around a kitchen atmosphere. That passion has stayed with her even after getting married and caring for three young children. Since moving to North Carolina in 2007, Shannon has baked for friends, church functions, parties, and holidays sharing her love for baking and her delicious treats with her closest friends.
After talking to her husband, Joe, in January of this year, they decided to put a name to their budding business and interest has exploded. Since then, Sugar Rush Crumb Cakes’ social media profile has grown exponentially to over 600 followers and been featured by several local/Charlotte food bloggers (including @FortMillNow, @TheCharlitty, @LocalCarolinas and @DailySpecialCLT).
Great for any get-together.
Shannon’s crumb cake process is unique; she bakes cakes to order which guarantees quality and freshness. All crumbs are handmade in small batches. There is a crucial cooling process ensuring the end product remains moist. The crumb-to-cake ratio is impressive and produces an end result that lends itself to the cake’s authenticity and richness. Sugar Rush Crumb Cakes is aware of the seriousness of COVID-19 and all cakes are made with appropriate safeguards.

To Shannon, baking cakes is more than a passion backed by talent and years of practice. It’s an opportunity to brighten people’s lives and make a difference. She recounted a same-day order in which a daughter needed a crumb cake that evening. After meeting the request, the customer expressed her sincere gratitude, because her father was just recovering his ability to taste food after recently completing Cancer treatment.
Having received out-of-state order requests from states reaching from New Jersey to California, Shannon is seriously considering finding commercial baking space in the near future to expand her operations.
